Real Estate 101 Online (Louisiana):
This course covers real estate principles and practices for salesperson applicants and is required for licensing as a salesperson. This course satisfies the educational requirements set by the Louisiana Legislature for an applicant for a Louisiana Real Estate Salesperson License. Topics include: Property Ownership, Land Use Controls and Regulations, Valuation and Market Analysis, Financing, Laws of Agency, Mandated Disclosures, Contracts, Transfer of Property, Practice of Real Estate, Louisiana Laws, Rules and Regulations, Louisiana Civil Law System, and Louisiana Law of Agency.

Real Estate 201 Online:
This course is a review of real estate principles and practice and the Louisiana License Law, Civil Law, and Commission Rules & Regulations for broker applicants. This course satisfies 90 of the 150 hours required by the Louisiana Legislature for an applicant for a Louisiana Real Estate Brokers License. Real Estate 202 Online:

Real Estate 203 Online:
This is the 30-hour course in broker responsibilities that is required of all broker candidates. This course is only offered online.

Post Licensing:
All newly licensed salespersons and brokers are required to complete a 45-hour post licensing course within 180 days after becoming licensed. These courses are offered online, but can be scheduled as a live class for groups of 10 or more.

Continuing Education:
All licensees must complete 12 hours per year of continuing education, 4 hours of which must be in the mandatory topic required by LREC. Continuing education courses are offered online, by correspondence or live seminars.

To become a licensed mortgage originator you must complete the 20-hour course, NMLS Safe Act Mortgage Loan Origination. You may repeat the class for up to 1 year from start date for a fee of $265. You must make application to the National Mortgage Lending Service (NMLS) and must pass the National Uniform State Exam. The initial license fee is $150 and the exam fee is $110. The exam is administered by Prometric. You must first register with NMLS before scheduling your exam. Mortgage Loan Originators are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education yearly.

The Trainee Appraiser: To become a Trainee Appraiser you must complete 75 hours of qualifying education which must include a 15 hour National USPAP Course. All required hours of coursework must be completed within 5 years of applying to be a Trainee Appraiser. As a trainee, you must work under a certified Supervisory Appraiser. A trainee can have more than one supervisory appraiser, but a supervisory appraiser can sponsor no more than three trainees.

Licensed Residential Appraiser: Licensed Residential Appraisers can appraise non-complex one-to-four residential units having a value less than $1,000,000, and complex one-to-four residential units having a value of less than $400,000. To become a Licensed Residential Appraiser you must complete a total of 150 qualifying hours of education. The 75 hours obtained as a Trainee can be applied to this requirement. You must also have at least 1,000 hours of experience obtained within a minimum of 6 months, and you must pass the State Exam to become fully certified and be able to work independently.

Certified Residential Appraiser

Certified Residential Appraisers can appraise one-to-four residential units without regard to value of complexity. To be fully certified as a residential property appraiser and work independently you must complete:

  • Two hundred (200) classroom hours of approved courses including 15-Hour USPAP course
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of appraisal experience in at least 12 months Please visit the following link for more information on requirements: www.lreab.gov.
  • At least 2 years of college or university coursework or 30 hours of college credit in approved courses.

Please check with the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board to verify your college credit. Appraising classes are offered online. Appraisers must complete 28 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

Online Certification Courses

Our online appraisal courses are offered through McKissock. Once you have completed the online course material you must contact our office to take your final exam. You will be required to take a proctored exam and you will be issued a certificate of completion once you have satisfactorily completed the course and exam.

General Certified Real Estate Appraiser Qualification Criteria

  • Three hundred (300) hours of approved courses including 15-Hour USPAP course
  • Minimum of 3,000 hours of appraisal experience in no fewer than 18 months
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

Continuing Education

Certified appraisers and trainees are required to complete 28 hours of continuing education every 2 years, 7 of which must be in Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. We offer these courses online.
